Best age for baby-making? Readers weigh in
Thu Mar 26, 2009
There is no way I would've been ready for children in my 20's. And, I am thankful that I didn't have any children because my first marriage ended in divorce. Now in my second marriage and approaching 40 this year, I am pregnant with my 2nd child (I had my first almost 2 years ago).
Mom fights legal ruling that kept her in hospital

My mother had 8 healthy children. She smoked, had a drink from time to time, and drank a pot of coffee every day. Again, she had 8 healthy children. With that said, no one has the right imprison anyone. Her rights were violated, period.

I have NOT been made to feel like my body is broken. I DON'T feel broken. I am perfectly happy and content with the way that I gave birth to my beautiful, healthy son.

I did not progress AT ALL. I never dialated, he never dropped, I never had any contractions. And to pump unncessary drugs into me to TRY and induce me with a very HIGH chance of nothing happening would've caused us both unnecessary stress.

Well, for those of us who are in the high-risk category, I would much rather prefer to see a professionally trained OB/GYN. I was never asked if I wanted a C-Section "just because".

I will dare you. My baby boy was born via c-section and was (and continues to be) perfectly healthy; as do I. He did not spend any time in NICU, I nursed him almost immediately after giving birth to him, and he has had no long-term ill-effects for being born that way .

I breastfed my son 45 mins after he was born via C-Section. I don't see the correlation between having a C-Section and breastfeeding.

In my case, I wasn't progressing at all. And even at 41 weeks, nothing was happening. My OB/GYN didn't even want to induce because based on her experience, inducing at that point wouldn't have started labor and it would probably have caused more stress on me and my baby.

You think my story is anecdotal? First of all, it's not a story; it was my experience. And I've known plenty of other women that had C-Sections with the same outcome. My recovery time was far less than MommyMegan's.
Troubling trend: The skyrocketing rate of C-sections

MommyMegan: My recovery with my C-Section was about 2 weeks, maybe a little less. I was able to nurse him 45 minutes after I gave birth to him and I was up and walking the next day but bending over to change diapers was almost impossible for me to do for the first week or so.
